Pilot Bearing Help

Ok Was Putting In New Clutch And Decided To Change Rear Main Seal And Pilot Bearing. Well The Old Wet Toilet Paper Trick Did Not Work So I Rented The Special Tool But All It Did Was Rip Out The Bearing Cage And The Outside Is Still Stuck Everytime I Reinstall The Tool After About Three Slams On The Weight It Rips Out With No Bearing How Can I Get This Thing Out

P.s. Does Everyone Change Out Both Parts Of The Rear Main Seal Or Just The Ring Thanks

i had the same problem on my LS1...all the "usual" methods failed miserably.

ended up using a hammer and chisel and carefully broke split the outside of the bearing...then was able to pull it out piece at a time.

paper towel didnt work for me either. Idk if it will still work for you, but i packed the bearing full of grease and then used a steel alignment tool and smacked it really good with a hammer about a dozen times. it slowly worked its way out. good luck!

are you using a tool on a slide hammer? there is another style puller that works great...it has a bolt on the part that goes in side the brg. and a fixture that goes on the back of the crank you tighen the bolt and it pulls it out smoothly....the slide hammer thing never works

If you do have a good chisel and can work carefully then break it apart, at this point it looks like you just have to do what you gotta do

I didn't quite understand the question on the seal....you want to change the seal on the crank, The gasket for the seal adapter in the block should be fine...I wouldn't mess with it if its not leaking
