Maximum RPM for Stock Opti

Can a factory replacement opti handle 6500 rpms? How about the MSD replacement opti? Thanks!

Well, my stock unit with 15k on the cap and rotor has been enduring 7.2k with no problems for about 15k miles. There will always be someone that says the opti is crap, and there will be people like me that can get it to work just fine.

What PCM are you using to get past 7200rpm?

Never had a single issue with mine. I replaced it when my water pump went a few years back and that one was fine as well. I shift at 6500 all day long and wouldn't hesitate to go 7k+ on a stocker.

For revs like that I'd replace the stock rotor with something better as they have a habit of comming apart somethimes.

I would check into the length of the dowel pin on the end of your cam if its to long by a hair it will murder opti's left and right

The msd pro billet is rated to 10,000 rpm. I have no idea of the maximum for a stock one.

As stated above, some people have good luck at higher RPMs with the stock opti. But Iv'e also met a few that have no luck at all over 6500, and checking proper pin lenght is hardly beyond their capabilities.
