What is going on inside my bullet muffler???

I took a look inside my Bullet muffler and some of the mesh like material is bunched of on the sides a rough manner. This is on the end that connects to the y-pipe in place of my catalytic converter. It used to be completely cylindrical.

Also there is not the slightest bit of damage to the outside of the muffler.

WTF is happening here?

The mesh does not look torn out, it looks like it moved and got wrinkled.

Anyone have any other ideas other than a test pipe which makes the engine sound raspy?

The bullet did a good job and made for nice sounding exhaust but now it might be restrictive.
