Sounds like your loosing power. Check all the connections from the battery to the passenger fender (both power and ground). Be sure to check the ground strap from frame to engine, the ground point at the radiator support, the head near the ICM and on the block above the starter.

When I say check I don't mean wiggle it to see if it's tight. Actually remove the connections starting with the battery and wire brush them and the point they contact.

Same problem on my car, and I believe Javier has experienced it also. I have narrowed my problem down to the connector near the rear drivers side wheel well. At this point I am going to just remove the body mount connector and hard wire it instead of the weatherpack that isn't seeming to hold on for a good connection.

The fuel gauge pegging is because it works on a 0-90 Ohm scale from the sending unit (90 Ohm full), but when the wire becomes disconnected the gauge sees infinite resistance (way more than 90 ohm) and it pegs higher than it ever will even with a topped off tank.

I know Javier replaced the pigtail that plugs into the body mount with some success.

Hope its not too late to join in....
having the same problem here. ive been having this problem for over a week. i know when the cars goin to die, the gas needle suddenly surges to past full- then the car stalls. other times it just starts right back but last night, it didnt until after a few hours. im due for a new fuel filter so I hope it helps. if not, im trying speedygonzales' & TQdrivensws6 re-grounding option. btw TQ, did this work for you?

My actual fix was the ground in the racetronix kit. There is a ground wire right where the new relay mounts near the rear wheel well and I had it on top of the bracket, but it wasn't getting a consistant contact. I removed the relay, ground the paint behind it, and put the ground wire ring directly on the bare metal, then the relay on top of it and bolted it in.

Re: car stalls and fuel gauge flies past full mark

Had this problem recently and my fix was the connector at the top of the fuel pump where the wires go from inside the tank to the outside of the tank. All of the pins were oxidized and rusty like. Cleaned the pins at the top of the fuel pump and had an extra female plug that plugs into the top of the fuel pump. The ground wire was the worst and was losing continuity. My symptoms were the fuel gauge would go way pass full then the engine would stall and shut off. Pull over and it would start right back up and repeat again in a few minutes. It was worst in the rain for some reason. Its been about 3 months now and has not happened again. Thank God.... Hope this helps someone..
