Edlebrock LT4 intake update from SEMA.

I skipped SEMA this year because my wife is 7 months pregnant... but I had my friends do my dirty work for me and go talk to Edlebrock.

Heres the deal. The LT1 intakes are available now. The LT4 intakes they are saying will be released in January. The intake is supposed to be totally different from the stock LT4. The ports are bigger, and the runners are longer in overall length. That should help in making more power from them. They would not say why it was taking so long but they did say they have everything worked out and they will be out in January. No official word on price but I suspect they will be in the $400-$450range.

Well I guess we will just have to wait and see if they are being truthfull this time. I wish I could have one but I needed an intake now so I stepped up and bought a real LT4 for $650

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_.../7000/7107.pdf 7107 for the lt1 and 7109 for the Lt4. I just looked at the Pdf of the install instructions and it said that the 7109 mounts directly to their Lt4 cylinder head 61939. Since when does Edelbrock make a Lt4 head?

they dont... atleast they dont yet. Maybe thats part of the hold up. I bet thery are going to release the head and intake at the same time. I also noticed that the recommended gasket for the LT4 intake is the 7777 race gasket. That means the ports for the LT4 intake should be big...

A few hundred bucks in your wallet if you have LT4 heads and need an intake

i'm starting to wonder if people are going to have sealing issues if people just buy the intake and slap it on their heads...

Its like the case of the delayed debut of the MSD opti, I'll believe it once I see it.

so what are the gains of the LT1 intake over the stock intake? anyone got a link to the intake itself? anyone tested it against the stock intake on a modded engine? I wonder if it would even be worth it if you still have LT1 heads. seems like it would be more beneficial on a bigger head. very curious to see some dyno comparisons LT1 style and LT4 style.

I'm curious to see this intake and Edel's heads compared to LE1/2 heads.

The lt1 was just released aparently. I know you couldnt get it last month. I'm curious to see if there are any gains too but your probably not going to find dyno comparisons on a brand new intake. I might try out the LT4 later when it comes out. Once I get my car running and get some good baseline runs on it, I wouldnt be opposed to testing one. Just depends on the price. If the Edlebrock is $500 I wont be the one to test it out. I just shelled out $650 for a genuine LT4...

Last I heard they were NOT going to be selling an intake that would mate to unmodified LT1 heads it was going to require machining to the heads.

The unspectacular results of the LT1 heads they offer SHOULD me squashing the apparent enthusuasm over the intake but sad thing is more people are going to ASSume it is an upgrade buy it and say wonderful things than those who are going to be objective about it.

They had both manifolds on display at SEMA. I took a bunch of pics of them. They aren't too pretty internally, especially compared to a production unit. There is alot of casting flash and such. Of course, these may be pre-production units and the shipping ones may be cleaner. I asked the rep what kind of gains are to be expected, if any. He stated that they don't have numbers on the LT4 intake yet (?!?), but the LT1 intake on a "Performer RPM" type setup (likely their heads and cam) gained ~7hp over the factory unit. Not very encouraging but somewhat to be expected as they really aren't much different other than the air gap design. Internally the miniram is more different from factory than these units. It would seem that if you already have a worked over factory manifold that is matched to your heads, there really isn't much to gain here. Kinda like the difference between an LT1 and LT4 head after they've been worked over. Not much difference. Prices are not that attractive either. The rep was quoting mid $300 for the LT1 and mid $400 for the LT4.

just ordered one of the LT4s from summit $464 (499 through jegs). and it only show up if you put in the part # on summits site(EDL-7109), no pic or anything. only problem is the tenitive ship date was 29 Nov., and we all know how that goes hell my 315 Goodyear eagle ss dr's have been on back order for almost 2 months. hope this SOB seals unlike my gm lt4 intake i have now...oil in all eight runners even with 7777 gaskets.
