Help! Look at my car! This morning it had a rough start but ran really well twice and on the third start up this happend!!

I overheated my car while flushing the radiator tonight. I kept an eye on the dash but it was reading incorrectly for sure.. I noticed a little bit of steam from the radiator and then the car shut by itself off quietly. No knocks or anything. I havent touched it since. I'm waiting til tomorrow to turn it on to be sure its cold.
Question is-- Does something always go bad? Head gasket? warped head? Worse?
Is it possible to be completely unharmed? The car was idling and I didnt rev it at all.

 

Ya probably didn't hurt it.Just make sure it has all the air out by bleeding it and keep it full of water.

 

My $.02 I blew a headgasket running it to hot but my gauge broke. I knew something was up after it overheated becasuse when it cooled down I tried to fill it up and while it would be running it was shooting all the water back out.

 

i drove from Indy to Tennesse and back at around 240*. The reason I did was because I had thought that it was just a faulty sensor since the fans never kicked on, and the engine ran fine. Come to find out the radiator was clogged and I really was running at 240*. No damage though.

 

You're probably all right. If any damage was done its already going to need repairs so you might as well fill/bleed it and start it up again. If you think you have a problem then start with a compression check.
