i have a couple of questions (for the helpers)

Whats up everybody. I just wanted too ask random questions.. Alot of them are probally stupid.. but hey! i just like too get info from u guys on this board, you all are very helpful. so lets start it off with this?

Camaro Vs. F-Bird - I was on the freeway, goin up against this F Bird last night and it was hard for the guy too keep up even though he had a V8 as well.. But they do look bad ***.. but ive always liked camaro's better.. but the question here is .. Dont these 2 engines basically have the same Specs??

160 Thermostat or 180 Thermostat - I Called pepboys asking them for a 160 Thermostat (dont know if i need it, but was just checking) and they said my car required a 180 Degree Thermostat.. Wouldnt that be better??

10w30 Oil vs. 5w30 Synthetic- Ok ive tried both (and both were pennzoil), And too me it seems like the 10w30 warms up a lil faster, but my 5w30 Played out on my kinda fast... which one would you guys recommend me too keep in me car?

Stock Camaro? - Why do u guys always have so many problems with your cars?? is it because you guys have alot of miles on it? or because you guys switch up the motors and parts? Mines runs perfect for me, but at the same time its stock with 117K Miles on it ('94) . So should i be lookin fwd too some problems soon ? i always keep the oil changed if that counts for nething..

The Basics -- I was thinking about just throwing like a K&N Cold Air Intake system, Some headers... what are the basic things i should do too my camaro w/o takin it too far from stock? I heard u guys mention of a "CAI" or "CAM" i really dont know what those are, but it sounds like its a must right? Explain..

OK Once again i know these questions probally seem real dumb, But i just would like too know a lil info for the members who want too participate.. so thanks once again! if i have some more ill just ask away

I would recommend reading and searching on here for your answers. You will learn alot. I read on this board for awhile before i even joined. All the questions you asked could be found very easily by searching.

CAI is just short for cold air induction. From what I hear its a great mod to start with because it replaces the restrictive stock induction and adds about 20 hp give or take. A catback exhaust setup would be your next best bet, there are alot of different companies out there, all with distinct setups. Do some research on the site and you will find out all the info you need.

I hope you are speaking in Canadian horses

It's actually more like 5hp at the wheels

Cat back should yield about the same

Headers are good for I think 20+?(long tubes)

Here are some of my favorite links for learning on stuff...

If it is a 93-97 f-body, the v8s are all pretty much equally matched. The 93-95s put out 275hp/325ft-lbs.tq. and the 96-97s put out 285hp/325ft-lbs. of tq.

If you want a 160 degree stat. check out the Hypertechs. They can be found by either Jegs or Summit for 18.00, but remember your PCM will need to be tuned to adjust the fan on/off temps.

As for the oil, I have experimented with some different brands and viscousities and haven't noticed anything major. I am now using Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic and am happy with it.

As for power, headers, cai, and catback are all a good beginning and a must have basis for bigger mods in the future such as heads and cam.

Re: i have a couple of questions (for the helpers)

The Camaro's and T/A's have the same motor and drivetrain. All of those parts are interchangeable. But the T/A's weight is a little bit more, not much, but probably enough from all of the ground affects, and flashy things on it that make it look cool. If I could do it over again though, I would buy a Z-28 just cuz I like the simple yet bad a$$ look they have.

cai, and catback, dont screw with headers unless u know how to work on your car.

just use synthetic oil, not a big difference between 5w30 and 10w30

somehow i dont think you bent your axle, rim possibly, but slim chance you actually bent your axle.

Searching is good too.
