Wont stay running after cam swap

Have to butterfly the gas to or else it stalls. Checked vacuum lines, mechanic think it's a vacuum issue. Might i have to adjust the throttlebody or something? Could it be computer issue? should i take the jetchip out? help i need to drive my car

Re: Wont stay running after cam swap

if you have a cam, u need at least a mail order tune compensating for the cam. that jet chip isn't doing you any good. this could very well be why the car isn't running right. the stock idle speed might not be good enough for the cam depending on it's characteristics. i'd try a tune first, but if that doesn't work, open up the throttle body blades a little. cams with more overlap will require a little more air at idle to feed it and keep it running.

Re: Wont stay running after cam swap

it's just a little 305 with 114 Lsa, I would think the stock comp could handle it, and right now i got no cash for a tune unfortunately. It very well could be the TB, probly just needs more air at idle. My mech still thinks hes got some vacuum lines crossed or somethings not hooked up right. Were gonna have someone look at it tomorrow.

Re: Wont stay running after cam swap

it will run with the stock tune. I ran my cc305 on the stock tune for over a year.

Check you rocker adjustments. sounds like you might have them too tight. Are you sure the chain isnt a tooth off?

He said he adjusted them to 3/4 turn past 0 lash and theyre not noisy.
I guess it could be a tooth off if that would cause this. Anything else that will cause this? Anyone with experience with this problem please chime in.

3/4 turn is too tight. You want no more than 1/2 a turn past zero lash.

Re: Wont stay running after cam swap

how long have you had the cam in the car?

it will usually take a little bit of time for the car too idle right with a new cam (mine did)

without pedaling it, yes it would die on me for the 1st few days of it
but after that, it would pick up on its own

does it die on you when you are pedaling it?
or it just dies without you touching the gas pedal?

Re: Wont stay running after cam swap

ok
go out and start it it up
take it out for a few laps
pedal it when it needs it at stop signs lights etc. etc.

it should eventually begin too idle on its own
the computer goes thru a learning process and needs time too adjust
