Anyone know anything about boats ?
Anyone know anything about boats ?
Looking into buying one .. but im basically clueless when it comes to boats .. need some advice and some expertese ..
Basically I want a small / medium sized boat .. I guess around 20' .. to fit 5-6 people, be able to ski behind it, take it fishing, and go about 60 clicks so we can jump some waves too or travel to islands without taking forever
budget isnt too high either.. so tell me where I need to compromise, and what factors should I keep in mind
it would be nice if we could tow the boat with a V6 truck (lighter boat) and park it in a garage to not pay for mooring..

Re: Anyone know anything about boats ?
lol.. on a more serious note, You need to determine which type of water your going to be in more often too. That way you can determine if you need an out-board motor, in-board motor, or a jet boat. All have advantages and disadvantages. Also, be extra careful inspecting the hul if its a fibre glass boat. (I'm sure you knew that already)
Besides that they are pretty much like buying a car. Instead of checking milage cheque running hours. Inpect the motor just like you would a car. blah blah blah

Re: Anyone know anything about boats ?
Get a Boston Whaler...the rolls Royce of all boats. Beware of cheap boats! This one company, I can't remember the name for the life of me, builds their boats as thin as they can legally. They look nice but they're cheaply made.
I'd assume you'd be keepin' it in a Marina? that can get pricey too!

Re: Anyone know anything about boats ?
do you mean 60mph or 60km? In boat lingo most people talk mph (or knots if you are really hard core)
A boat that goes 60mph is basically buying the equal to a Z06 in boat form. That is really moving. With 5-6 people in the boat and will go 60 you will need about 275hp+ ($$$) outboard and a performance hull. Since an I/O is heavier you will need more power and more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
For a decent runabout to pull a skiier with it loaded up you will need to spend about $12000 to get something close to reliable. I would go with something about 17-18' with a 115hp outboard. That way you could head out on the ocean if its not too ruff or lakes. A Boston Whaler is going to be atleast $20,000. Another thing to consider is, with another person buy a new Baylinder or something like it, split the $300/month and have a new boat with warenty.
Other things to consider are storage because some aparments might not let you keep something uninsured on their property. Also there will be theft of all your gear if you park it outside in the West End.
Count on $100/day (atleast) for boat gas, $45/day for beer
+ maintanence etc etc...
I can't wait to buy a boat one day but in the meantime I don't have the space to store it or the time to use it. In the mean time I use what I like to call code "F"
"if it flys, floats or ****s....RENT IT!"

Re: Anyone know anything about boats ?
what the hell do you need a boat for? your iranian, your not designed for these things, you should be playing in sand. your gonna fall apart doing all these outdoor activities.
Re: Anyone know anything about boats ?
yah the boat is gonna be pretty expensive. If you are buying new then I would advise waiting for the boatshow as you will save a significant amount of money ( first/second week of febuary), check out Olympic Boat Centers (on granville island). If you're buying used ask around the marine stores, check the marine buysell, pacific yatching magazine. And if you need any accesories once you have your boat, come to my store and i'll hook you up..... www.stevestonmarine.com
