I changed the fuel filter and the serpentine belt today and afterward i started to drive the car and the car has a weird wining noise that gets more with higher rpm. Sounds like a supercharger, cool sounding but i'm thinking it might be something bad. I let the engine run for a while and reset the tension, rechecked the belt path and made sure all the pully's were correctly seated. I also checked for leaks and stuff from the fuel filter but nothing. I'm kinda stumped. I'm running the "poly- " belt from advanced auto and kinda wondering what it is.

Any insite?

 

I'd just apply some belt dressing to your new belt. I'd almost guarantee that would silence it. Make sure you apply it evenly over the belt or it might make some new (potentially more annoying) noises.

 

My car also makes a whining noise it's very faint and I believe it is normal. I only have 25,000 miles on my 2002 3.8 and it mainly does it when the engine is not warmed up. I haven't had any problems with it so I'm not complaining !!

 

I got a 2000 3.8 with about 80,500 miles on it and i just replaced the factory fuel filter and the belt (i belive the second time i'm changing it). Wasn't doing it before and seems to do it whether its hot or cold.

I haven't had any problem with the running of the car due to belt noise but i do have a "misfire" prob that has developed about 1000 miles ago and seems to be getting worse.

 

Its just the belt.

I have a gatorback belt and it makes a supercharger-esque whine as the RPMs climb.

Don't worry about it.

My '99 makes the same noise when it is cold out side. I have replaced both idler assemblies and 2 alternators and 4 belts. It still does it. I have heard a ruhmor that it may be the power steering pump.
I will have to check it out.

 

I dont know man, ive had my belt and fuel filter changed bout 5 months ago, and mine recently jus started making that noise. Dont think its the belt or the filter. I fear its something bad also if anyone has any new info please post
