High Mileage 1996 V6 Auto, Options?
High Mileage 1996 V6 Auto, Options?
I will be looking at a 1996 Camaro today. V6, Auto trans, 227,000 miles. THe guy can't afford payments, so he's letting me have it for $1,500. Obviously this is a LOT of miles, while I'll probably need to put in a new longblock eventually, I was wondering how well the trans holds up. If I need a new one, which type is it, and where can I get a new one? Has anyone had it rebuilt? What was the rebuild cost? What type of ecm problems would I have if I switched to a 5 sp.?

Thats just an awful lot of miles! I hope you dont plan on using it as a daily driver!
As long as the fluid/filter was changed and car wasnt raced too hard I'm sure the trans shouldnt be a problem.

I have the same thing just not no where near that kind of miles, im at about 146,000, and i just did valve cover gaskets, and im having some tranny problems right now, still havent found out what it is yet, it's been like that since i've had it (about 2 months) and i payed $1700, Good luck with your decision.

OK. But now what about the trans swap? If I found a 5sp f body to rob parts from, I could do all the mechanical install myself, I was wondering what ECM problems I'd have with doing that.
