LT4 Hot Cam / spring question

Hey I have a 305 sbc in my '88 TA and will be getting a pair of LT1 aluminum heads soon with an LT1 intake and I've decided I'm going to get a cam identical to the LT4 Hot Cam but ground on a 114 LSA. Anyways, that means .492" lift with the stock 1.5RRs. I want to pretty much leave the valvetrain on these LT1 heads stock except for the new valve seals I'll put on. Can these heads/springs safely handle that much lift stock, up to 6000RPM? If not, I'll pick up a set of LT4 springs to replace them with.

I'm not really looking for advice towards another cam. I think this combo will make pretty decent power on my 305 and will be even better when swapped onto my 355.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam / spring question

The stock springs aren't good for that much lift. Go ahead and spend a few bucks for the LT4 springs or a set of Comp 983 springs.

I hope you don't think you're going to put those lt1 heads on your 305.

....LT1s have reverse cooling, have the LT1 heads you have in mind been worked to accept normal coolant flow? And that cant be the only difference...

Re: LT4 Hot Cam / spring question

Its not....the valves on a 350 head are too big to fit a 305...

Re: LT4 Hot Cam / spring question

Yes, I know its reverse-cooling and that won't be a problem to fix. The 1.94 valves should also be okay with the 305 as well.. If not for some reason, then I guess its time to throw in the 355...
