check your lower ball joints in the front. I had a poping noise when it was cold and in reverse too, the ball joints were just plain worn out. Changed them and the noise went away.

Also check the rear diff. YOu may need to just change the fluid and add som Limited slip diff addative which you can get at the dealer.

While you have the cover off make sure that the spiders and the shims on the two spiders which ride on the cross shaft are not ready to desintegrate.

I had a set of gears put in a 7.25" G-body diff once with the Abrun Cone type limited slip. They slipped in Royal Purple on me, charged me out the a$$ for it too. I didn't even need diff fluid because I had stuff to go in it.

Anyway, that thing popped like you wouldn't believe. So I drained out the royal purple and filled it back up with the stuff I had bought and put in the GM diff additive and the problem was solved. The Royal Purple is to thick to allow the clutches to slip. At least add the diff addative even though Royal Purple probably states you don't need it with there fluid.
