Rocker arms hitting springs?
Rocker arms hitting springs?
When I pulled my valve covers my rocker arms were hitting the top of my valve springs. I ground down the rockers a little bit to let them clear the springs. My question is can I get longer or shorter pushrods to help this problem? If I can, should i go longer or shorter?
i dont quite understand your problem. the rockers are supposed to contact the springs... that is how downward pressure is applied to them in order for your valves to open. if the pushrods are factory size then there is no need to get a diff length.. i believe stock is 7.200" long but i could be wrong.
The edge of the top of the spring was hitting the middle part of the rocker arm, where the curve part is. It's kind of hard to explain. Mabey the springs are just too big. I bought them with the springs and the rockers on the car.
longer pushrods sounds like...
sounds to me like you need longer pushrods. longer pushrods would level the rocker out and alleviate interference issues on the stud side on the valve spring. im not sure grinding the rockers was such a good idea. were these the crane rr1.6's you ground? the area your describing is a high stress area in the rocker and too much grinding there could result in deformed or broken rockers. just my $.02
You change pushrod length based on valve tip contact, interference of the rocker body to the retainer should never happen. Sounds like you may need different rockers to clear the springs that are on there.
