Oil ring Question. need help assembling !!

I have weisco pistons for my 383 stroker motor. It comes with a oil retainer ring because the piston wrist pin comes into the lower oil ring area. If this makes sense.

My question is this. Do I still use all 3 oil rings and the retainer? Reason I ask is becaues the rings are real tight when all 3 plus the retainer are on there. Trying to assemble the motor now. So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes the "retainer" as you call it, is necessary when the wrist pin is into the oil ring land area. You should have gotten a sheet with the rings that tells what the ring to land clearance should be. Did you order the rings seperate from the pistons or did the rings come with pistons? You may have gotten the wrong thickness. DO NOT use the rings if they are tight in the land. You will damage a piston and or cylinder.
