Need help...Hesitation at high revs

i did a search on this topic but my problem is a little different the all the ones i could find. i also posted a message in the LT1 Tech forum, but after only a few hours my post is like 4 pages back
my car started to hesitate yesturday. if i boot it, it runs fine until about 4 thousand rpm then it hesitates and really just doesn't want to go any faster. but when i change gear, it runs fine again until the same rpm. it hesitates at all temps. tell me if you don't know what i'm talking about.
i had a similar problem with my old car and it turned out to be the ECU wiring. could this be the same problem? i don't even know where the ECU is.
Or could this have something to do with an airleak?
any help would be greatly appreciated

mine did that before and it was the opti, how old is yours, check your waterpump for leaks.

Mine did that along time ago. It was a cracked plug. Check your plugs and wires.

check coil, plugs, and wires for high rpm issues... opti seems more prevalent with low rpm stumbles but it could still be the problem.

As has been said, check plugs and wires. Sounds like that to me.

mine did that a while back. i could punch it till about 4000-4500 and then it would start to stumble really bad. mine was the throttle position sensor (TPS)

i got quoted like $90 for labor to change the spark plugs, so i was like ahhh no. when i bought the car i had it checked and the gap in the plugs where to big. i havent looked that hard but so far i havent even seen where the spark plugs go
so i get the feeling that i want be able to change them. but i'll check if i can change them today. i was gonna change them soon anyway.
i did some searching and as Draco said a bad opti has more to do with low rpm hesitating.
are there any other ideas?

i was told that it also could be one of the following:
MAP sensor
vacuum leak in the intake mann
a clogged fuel filter or low fuel press
timing is getting retarded

the list of options are growing, what do u guys think about these?

When I bought my 95 it would do the exact same thing. I changed the plugs and it rocked! Remember the rule QEC: quick, easy, cheap. Those are the thimgs to check/diagnose first.

Got a question for the experienced guys.

How long you think it takes to change plugs on a stock motor?

changing plugs, for those that have done it many times, i can't see it taking longer then an hour to 2 hours MAX

I'm sure guys on here can do it much faster

with the right tools and good fingers should take about 60-90 minutes

looks like i'll change the plugs - or at least try.
not sure if i should just get some cheap ngk ones or some "high performance" plugs. is there much of a difference between power and durablilty?

I'd switch to NGK TR55 copper plugs gapped to .050. they are quite cheap and will support more HP since they are 1/2 heat range cooler then stock.
