New Dyno tuning facility on its way to SW Washington

Hello all, starting in late May or early June Wide Open Performance and Offroad in vancouver Washington will have their new Mustang Chassis dyno installed, running and ready to tune.

This new dyno is not your typical inertia based dyno, they will have the capability to absorb over 1000Hp continously with 2 large eddy current power absorbers, plus its good for 200 MPH runs and it can simulate 1/4 mile performance repeatably within 1/10 of a second.

Onsite PCM, prom editing for GM cars and trucks will also be available by start up time of June. Also available is tuning for Ford products, and of course for the diesel crowd they offer tuning and bolt on enhancements for both GM and Ford trucks.

If interested you can call them at 360 695 9433

Question HHMMM...Curiosity piqued here...

Who is the tuner and what is his background. Does he have any training in any certain tuning programs.

Will they have LT1 edit or LS1 edit for stock GM PCM's? Just a few questions I am sure some of the other Southerners will have more!

tjwong is the tuner. I've personally met him and talked to him extensively. He can tune pretty much anything, but specializes in GM. He is an electrical engineer as well.

I've heard of TJWong through certain circles here in the area. He has a blown C4 and I've heard he is the "The Man" with LT1_Edit. I'll let Tom tell you about his C4. I don't want to print any mis-information seeings how I got it second hand.

I think his capabilities will be an asset to the LT1/LS1 community and more.

Mustang dyno should be nice for turbocharged cars with the loading capability. If I didn't want to compare my next dyno numbers with my current ones, I'd be looking to get my car tuned with ya Tom. Good luck with your new facility here in Vancouver.

I have to admit I have been more of a lurker these days than an active participant on the board here. Mostly I hang out in the computer diagnostics and tuning forum here and in the Corvette Forums.

I offer help to many help to many of the forum members here and also in the Vette forums in the form of guidance, data analysis, and even some free tunes via email for those that have their own programming cables. I have even repaired a few PCMs here when Ion isn't available and have supplied many with their flash memory chips for their socketed PCMs.

My background includes having been a GM certified tech for many years, later after getting sick of the ritualistic duties of being a wrench I turned to engineering. Since the mid 80s and until recently I have been in the Pulp and Paper industy as an electrical engineer specializing in process controls. What that means in a nutshell is I specialized in total plant control, in detailed design of controls systems and their applications. For the last 10 years my work has taken me to SE Asia, China, Scandinavia, Brazil, Canada and most of the states here at home.

If you all wonder why I am back into the Automotive field, one reason is that like many industries even pulp and paper has been steadily moving their manufacturing offshore, hence the reason I have been working overseas for the last several years. So that means that jobs are few and far between here at home, and seeing how several of the large paper corporations has shut down approximately 175 paper machines across the US in the last couple year its just the signs of the times.

The one big reason is family, having travelled so much I never see my own family and as a lot of you may know, sometimes there are things even more important than money. I won't kid you the money was great especially the tax incentives when one is out of the country working.

For programming tools, I personally own the same GM service programming tools that any GM dealership owns. That includes a TECH 2, a full version of the latest TIS 2000 version 4.1 software, various lab scopes, fluke test gear, currenty two WBO2 systems and 4 left in stock to sell I also calibrate my own instruments with precision calibration equipment (part of my engineering work) so I know if I have a bad measurement device or a good one.

I have Tuner Cat and most of their ECM definitions, LT1 & LS1 Edit. I also burn custom chips for the Ford people and of course Powerstroke diesels. I know......Ford sux but their money is green too

I don't have it all yet, as I am waiting for other program designers to complete their software, so that means that there will soon be alternatives to LS1 Edit, and the new HP Tuners Software.

The dyno I personally purchased is a Mustang model 600HP. I ordered it with an extra eddy current power absorber so I can flog the diesel trucks on the dyno as well. Also a tidbit of information for those of you that own motorcycles and ATVs, this dyno can test motorcycles and ATVs as well. Mind you I will have to uncouple on side of the machine but it can be done.

The dyno is due to arrive in a couple weeks. We are moving to a new location and its going to take me a little time to do the excavating and concrete work to get the dyno in the ground, wired and tested. Plus we are moving from our present location to a larger shop which needs to be dolled up a bit before our grand opening, which is planned for the 1st of June.

Sorry for the ranting, I know some of you was wanting to know a bit of my background so here it is

Wow... I'm stoked. I live in Eugene, OR, but Vancouver is only 2 hours away. I found this in the on-line yellow pages for Vancouver, WA.

Wide Open Peformance and Off-Road
1416 Broadway, Vancouver, WA

Hope this helps out. I'm sure other people in Oregon would be interested.
