running funny after running out a gas

well sure enough i didnt make it to the gas station...

i ran outa gas and my car died, well i called my gf she brought a gas tank (probably 87 gas) maybe 3/4 a gallon in there maybe less, so that got me to the gas station, well it accually stalled right after i started it up, but i turned it over again and reved it up for about 10 seconds, and it started to run ok, kinda slugish got to the gas station filled up 15.9 gallons (about 1 gallon in extra gas tank) of 92 and now it seems kinda sluggish

The only thing that I can think of is that our fuel pumps are pretty sensitive and maybe you stressed it ou too much by running out of gas.

You probably need to change your fuel filter. You more than likely sucked up some junk from the bottom of the tank.

You definitely shortened the life of your fuel pump

either the filter is clogged or you burned out your pump. For those that don't know, don't EVER run out of gas in these cars...the fuel pump relies on fuel as its coolant and if its not getting any it will burn itself out in a heartbeat. There have been lots of posts about this before.

yea and once the car dies, the fuel pump will actually try to reprime itself adding "fuel to the fire" so to speak.

Pun absolutely intended

Aside from burning out the fuelpump, couldn't the car get vapor-locked as well?

yea, but it wouldn't last that long. And that would effect initial startup not long term running...

i think it seems to be running normally what kinda symptoms would i notice if the pump was goin on its last limb?

it seems to run just the same up top, im not sure if its related but i might have a tiny problem around 1500 rpms but i think i was noticing something a week or so ago so im pretty sure its not related, and the idle seems like it might be a tiny bit ruffer... but no major differences like i had noticed the first day.
