header question on 1 3/4 ports into d port heads

hi,
im going to be buying some headers for long for my 97 z28 camaro, and was wondering, why does all the 1 3/4 headers have square,or circular ports?will they still work coinsidering our d-port heads?what would i need to do to the gasket,i will be buying the percy's dead soft aluminum gasket's with these, and i already have locking header bolts, would i buy the gaskets for a older say thirdgen car with the circular ports, and put them on my lt1??im looking at either hooker shorty's,or slp,and im going to convert them to a 94-95 style, also, considering the mac,but they are only 1 5/8,but are also cheaper,so im guessing that's how they are supposed to be,i just dont want to have leaks out the a$$,thanks alot

Don't worry about the gaskets being round or square. Just get the regular style D ports made for LT1's. They fit the shape of the head so you don't have to worry about the shape of the header itself.

hi,
alright, that would take care of the gaskets, but it is normal for the header being circular???
my friend just bought hooker shortie's,and the are circular, and i bought a set of slp shortie's used, last year or so,and same thing they were circular, just wondering if they are supposed to be,or are they for our car's with differnet head's or what, thanks.

The d shape is to help stop turbulence in the exhaust, which streamlines the flow to expell the gasses quicker. Hence, more power. So throwing an oval in there would create a turbulence, hampering flow. Id stick with the GM gasket for $8 each. They are unbeatable. The locks are a must .

so the oval port on my headers wont matter if i am using a dport gasket right? and i looked at the stock metal gaskets and the holes are not in the right place for my jet-hots. i put some felpro gaskets on there but they are leaking..
