Talking Removing ASR / traction control -- UPDATE

My side project for removing traction control has made some great progress. About a month ago I bought a 3-channel EBCM off e-bay for $9.00+shipping. This weekend I went home and swapped it for the 4-channel one in my car.

I turned the key. Both ABS INOP and ASR OFF lights came on... then the ABS INOP light turned off. This is with the ASR motor under the hood removed.

So, in theory, I have retained ABS and removed traction control. I have yet to see how this will affect the proportioning valve for the rear brakes... that may require removal and some custom line-bending... but it's progress.

More updates to come

A bit unrelated.. but do you know if it is possible to leave ASR in the car (for those rainy days) but have it OFF by default when the car starts?

I realize this is digging this thread up from the dead, but I was wondering if you had any progress on this. I REALLY want to remove my ASR eventually, but really would like to keep ABS if at all possible. Would like to keep cruise as well, but not as important.

I have a OBD 1 car. Is ASR and TCS the same thing? I as well would like to remove my traction control. I HATE looking at the big ugly box on my valve cover. What is the EBCM 3-channel, where can I find one?

ASR = TCS for the Camaro
TCS = ASR for the Firebird/Trans-Am

They are the same, but get different names depending on the nameplate on the car.

Aren't the 98 and up cars all 4 channel ABS? If so, wouldn't it just be easier to swap the cruise control and ABS stuff from one of them?
