Which K member to go with?

The BMR is pricey. Are there any others that weigh less than stock and are good quality for less money?

The only choices you've got are BMR, PA Racing & Anthony Jones (AJE). AJE makes some real good stuff for Mustangs, but haven't seen too many of the F-Body k-members yet. I know maybe 2 people who are running AJE stuff on our cars and they had it long before anyone even made an aftermarket K-member.

Anyone have a comparison between the BMR & the PA?

I was just told that the brake lines would have to be custom fabricated if I went with a PA k member. Is this true? If so, why? Any other custom work needed w/the PA one? Does any custom work have to be done with a BMR k member?

I see a few different versions of the BMR

Should I get the one with or without the motor mounts?

With mounts. I have the BMR, it was worth it. 100% less headaches while working on the car and dropping tools.

It's plug and play, just drop the old one, bolt the new one up, zapstrap the brake lines, and get an allignment done.

I had a PA ... almost the same as a BMR

the only thing that a BMR has over PA .. its got integrated engine mount brackets which will save u some more weight

I had a PA before and I didn't like the quality of welds on them. A friend got his LS1 k around the same time as I got my LT1 K and had the same thing. Not sure if you need to customize the brake lines on the BMR. I deleted my ABS, so I had to regardless.

Just for reference, I pulled my Hooker LTs off my car in just under 2 hours with the tubular K-member. I'll never run another car with one.

Looks like I will get a BMR if I get one. How much should I expect to pay to have the k member installed?

Can you install the K-member with the motor still in the car? Would you be able to do it with a jack one side at a time or would you have to get a hoist?

Amen, Brother Jason.

I ordered a PA from Thunder and after waiting a couple months, I took one of the BMR's off the shelf for a little more money, but no wait.

My BMR wouldn't fit with shorty headers. BMR was very concerned about this and kept calling Thunder when we were trying to install the engine with [new] LT's. They may have fixed the problem since, but the old design absolutely would not fit with shorties.

Mike

No who the hell needs a hoist it's all about the jackstands and lightweight aluminum race jacks

Neways I had my motor out when I did my kmember but i've pulled the kmember off many times with the engine still in the car. Pretty simple, all you gotta do is get the car up on some jackstands, then what I did since I have an M6 I just slipped a jack under the bellhousing since its pretty darn sturdy, then I jacked up there and was able to remove the motor mounts and then drop the kmember from there... Not to hard to be honest with ya.

How long did it take you to remove the stock k-member and put the new one in? Thanks

Wow, don't you think that would be putting a lot of stress on that bellhousing and the connection right there?? I mean, amen to ingenuity and all, but that seems kind of risky. Now watch me go and do the same thing!!
