Question Damaged wires

This is a stupid question but I just recently installed new plugs and wires in my 93 z and in the process I cut the outer layer of the wire. My question is will they be ok or should I replace them again. I don’t want my car to miss fire and don’t know how fragile the wires are. I have not had the chance to start my car yet due to the fact I’m also installing a new opti and water pump and have not had the time yet to put the water pump back on.

Thanks for the help!!

I'm guessing that you didn't cut the wire itself? Just the very outside, or all the way down to the wire? If it was me, I might just put electrical tape on it as long as it's not arcing, until I could get annother one.

Electric arc: n. A luminous discharge of current that is formed when a strong current jumps a gap in a circuit or between two electrodes.

If you want to check for it, the easiest way I can think of is run your car while it's dark outside and look at the area in question to see if it's arcing or not. (Look for an electric discharge around the area where you cut into the wire.)

The outer shielding on plug wires (stock and Taylors) isn't that thick. From the two wires that my headers have damaged, it appears that the sleeving is only 1/16 of an inch thick or so. Once you get a hole through the outer sleeving down to the inner core, you WILL get misfires it's only a matter of time. Personall, I would probably inspect the damaged wires very closely and if it looked like the cut went to the inner core, I'd replace them.
