EGR Removal

Before anyone says it, I did the search, and didn't find what I needed.

I can't get the passenger side bolt off, can't get the wrench in. Do I need to use one of those snubby short wrenches to get to it?? Does anyone have any techniques to offer?? I'm NOT doing a block off, just a replacement.

Thinking about how that thing is turned up there when the exhaust manifold is on the engine, it seems that it would be almost impossible to remove that pipe with the exhaust manifold installed.

When I stalled my headers, I had to get the manifold part way out, THEN remove that pipe from the exhaust manifold and remove it the rest of the way.

Oh, some PB Blaster on the nut will surely help some too.

The passenger side bolt should be pretty easy to take off. All you need is the correct size socket. You shouldn't need anything special. Just work at it a little bit more.

I'm speaking of the EGR valve itself. I can't get to the bolt, or rather I can, but the wrench hits on the bottom of the cowl. It one of those snubby wrenches the only way to go?

Oh, I see

I got my valve off from by reaching across from the passenger side of the car to the valve.

Using a combo (closed end) wrench might make it easier on you, since that's what I had to use.

I've been trying, but no luck. I'm going to get the snubby wrenches tomorrow.

I'm working on a 93, so my fuel crossover is behind the manifold, not in the front. Definitely hinders access back there.

did you try using a 1/4 drive ratchet and socket head? i think u need a deepwell and i think the size was either 10 or 11mm.
been awhile since i was back there.
or, you could just take the whole intake off..lol
good luck..patience.

Yeah, not enough clearance between the valve and stud for the socket to get in there. I gave that a shot praying.

It's no biggie, I need a new tool fix anyway.

i pulled my intake, it was easy. I got some block plates from tpis for like 20 bucks, then go to a muffler shop and have the weld the pipe closed and put back on the manifold

Before you go buy a wrench, you better look at the nut you already got off. Mine were 1/2".

I know they're 1/2", I just don't have one of the really short wrenches. Shortest one I have is like 6"+ long.

I used a short wrench with 1/4" drive. I had no problem at all. The driver's side gave me a lot of trouble with that ridiculous ASR box in the way though.

Just being curious. What kind of performance gains are we looking at on pulling the EGR Valve out?? I pulled the vacuum line off the top of it and that was the end of that.
