exhaust leak with copper gaskets

hi guys,
i did a header swap on my 97 z,but had problems, and needed my car back,so i put my, stock manifolds back on,anyhow,i used brand new copper gaskets, and locking header bolts, and i have a exhaust leak on the driver's side, the gasket is facing the right way, should i have sprayed the gasket with something?or should i just buy the dead soft aluminum gaskets?,im really looking into the pacesetter long tubes,so i would be able to switch them then, but basically you think the copper gaskets just suck,or do i need something to spray on them first?thanks alot.

I never used the copper ones, I'm not sure how well they hold up. Most ppl use the felpro 1406's i believe, I use them on my setup and they have been trouble free for over a year of use. They are one time use though, but I'd recomend you use the felpro's.

I used the Summit brand Dead Soft Copper Header Gaskets with no problems at all, perfect seal. In fact I think they are better in the fact that they have a "crush seal" and they conform to unflat surfaces better than fiber gaskets.

I used Copperseals on my 94 with hooker LTs and have not had a problem so far.
I don,t know if I would have used them with the stock manifolds.
The felpros would probably be better for that.

hi,
thank's guys for the reply's, i usually always use the percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets, but at the time summit didnt carry them, and a few weeks later i saw them in the jegs book,so that's why i bought the copper, but anyways,i will try the percy's this time coming up,and thanks for your input.
