Unhappy ticking noise on engine turnover

Last night I went to help a friend get his car fixed and mine breaks down. I put my ignition to the on position and the gages all read normal except my SES light. I go to turn it over and it just ticks....no cranking sound...just ticks...if anyone has a quick clue to what it might be before i head out to check it during daylight hours let me know, and thanks for yer time.

Usually a sign of inadequate voltage. Check battery cable connections and then battery, if needed.

Like Shoebox said, dead battery. Bring some jumper cables.
