GMPP 1.6 RRs Break?
GMPP 1.6 RRs Break?
I just ordered some GMPP rockers off of ebay. I have been reading somethings about aluminum RRs that is worring me now. I have read that they break sometimes. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with any aluminum RRs? Another question i have is , I have springs from tpis and they are good for .540 lift. but with the RRs my lift will be .515/.555. I was wondering if I could get by with using these springs. If i cant, were do i get some good high lift springs for a good price? Thanks
While aluminum Roller rockers are not as strong as crome molly they are just fine for motors with stock to moderate pressure springs. I ran a set of Summit Racing Roller rockers on a SB 406 with Sportman II headds for more than 30k with no problems. I beleive the Aluminum Rocker strength issue is more a result of efective advertising, as I have not seen but a few of these rockers broken. Most of which in vehicles with high pressure vavle springs that were being run hard.
I would not run those springs with that much lift with out measuring for coil bind at maximum lift. If you run the springs at too high a lift you will fatigue the springs if your lucky and break them if your not.

All non-ferrous (iron-based) metals in cyclic service will eventually fail. Therefore, all aluminum rocker arms will eventually fail.
How soon? In dirt track cars running 250 lb seat pressure, they only make a few races. In a stock LT4 'Vette with 100 lb seat pressure, they'll go a couple hundred thousand miles. Pretty much everything else falls in the middle.
I'm using Comp Pro Magnums.
