What PSI are you guys running?
What PSI are you guys running?
I ordered some 255/50/16 BFG comp T/A drag radials today from www.tbyrne.com and I'm mounting them on spare salad shooters when I get them. They're only going to be used for driving to the track, racing, and driving home. I was wondering whats the best PSI I should run in these tires.
Thanks in advance

I hear that drag radials will launch and hook up the best at and around 15-20 psi. Some will say that is a little low for the street side. I personally kept some of mine at 25 psi and it seemed great for street driving and they still hooked up great!
the more psi the better for driving, 24 28, whatever. for the track however you just need to see what works for you. i always ran around 20psi in my street tires worked fine, if i knew i wasnt going to race i'd air them up a little.
my advice is start at 25-26, and heat them good. if you spin drop it a couple psi and try again. keep on until you find what your happy with.
i'm runnimg 17 psi in my nitto's and drive on then every day. its easier to cut one like that but i try to avoid stuff in the road. the last time at the track i cut a 1.9 60 and found out later i had a broke 1st gear piston and screwed up timing. so i could have gotten a 1.8 at least. i really wouldnt go much under about 15 or so. if you do i'd go to the local sears and buy a $20 air pump and air them back up before you leave the track.

drag radials, like any other radial are subject to cupping if the pressure gets too low. Best way to tell:
Go out on the street (preferably before you get to the track so you don't get kicked out), do a short burnout leaving 10 ft of tire tracks or so. Take a look at the tracks and see what its doing. If the center is darker than the outside, theres too much pressure. If the outsides are darker than the center, theres too little pressure. Shoot for a nice even black mark all the way down.
