Keyless entry controller...

Ok, I had to put new batteries in my keyless entry controller (or fob I guess it's called) and I was wondering does it need to be reprogrammed? I had to do the same thing on the Blazer. Do I just take it back to the dealer or what? Thanks!

The dealer can program it. I've ran across something that said that the average person could program it though.

You don't need to take it to a dealer. It's as easy as getting a fused wire and connecting them to 2 points on your ALDL connector.

I know on OBD1 you connect a fused wire to terminals A(bottomg far left), and G (top far right) when you do that you should hear the, lock and unlock. then when you hear that push a button on the remote and they should lock and unlock again telling it accepted the code. remove the fused wire and you're good to go...not sure on your 2000 blazer because it's OBD2...i'll see if I can find out for ya if no one chimes in before I do

EDIT: check the manual if you still have it, it should tell ya

Go to http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...ar/key_fob.htm , he has the proceedure for reprogramming the FOB. It's also listed in the users manual if you have it handy.

I didn't, and have done it several times...
Only time I had to 'reprogram' mine was when I bought a used FOB when one stopped working..
I guess the answer is, that if a battery change didn't work, try to reprogram it?
And yes, it can be done by oneself, no need for dealer to get involved...
Remember to do both fobs if you do reprogram them...
And the 'early' fobs have a different procedure than the 'late' ones..

There should be no reason to have to reprogram after changing the battery in the fob. The programming procedure allows the receiver to adapt/match the fob. The frequency that is output by the fob cannot be altered, so just changing the battery cannot affect it.

hmmm, I wonder why mine isn't working on my car. Could my fob be bad? Can I get one off of ebay and use it or is that not possible?
