If i uplug the TPS should my car idle different

I am trying to find out why my car is acting up. It sat for 2 yrs before i put it al back together. If idles real low and doesnt have good throttle response. The computer is an OBD 1 my madz28. I unplug the TPS while it was running and i also did it prior to cranking, there is no difference in it being plugged in or not. Does this mean that the TPS is bad?
thanks
I dont have a code reader. and the service engine is on, but i dont hve the back 02's in

you can test it with a volt meter. it's 3 wires. one 5 volt refference, one ground, and one PCM imput wire. test for hot and ground then with it pluged in and the key on engine off (KOEO) probe the PCM signal wire with your multimeter on volts. closed throttle it should be around .5-1volt. now slowly open the throttle slowly. voltage shold increes smoothly with no glitches all the way up to WOT witch should be above 4 volts

I changed the TPS and the dern thing started working fine. idle perfect and somehow it made the transmission start shifting.

then yes it was bad. the tranny uses signals from the TPS to manage shift points. glad you found the problem

what year is your car?

and yes, TPS is actually to turn on PE mode, and to let the computer know when the tranny is supposed to shift (and how hard its supposed to shift)

never knew it had to do anything with idle tho

1997. Yeah my car is running a lot better due to changing this. It still not up to my expectations, but maybe i just set them to high.

I got the SES light too. I dont have a code reader. So i just took a wild guess and got my cousins WS6 at my house and i swaped out the TPS and it ran a lot better. So i just went and bought me one. If it doesnt start performing better than it is, it will be sold.

lol

well, dont give up ur hopes

from just fixing my car (alot of **** to fix lol)

i went from a 14.6 to a 13.6

fixed TPS
cleaned maf
added kn
added cutout
changed oil (synth) with one of those compression gainback things that u put in ur oil lol
changed only 4 plugs (cant get to the passenger side lol)
fixed overheating problem (went from 240 to 160)
got PCM tune
got rid of false knock
run only 93

all that (as u can see most is just fixing it up) i went from a dissapoting 14.6 to a 13.6

there is probably more i had to fix, but those are all i can remember
