Hard on brakes coming off exit ramp, got LOW TRAC light???

I was coming off the highway after making a lil run and had to get on the brakes hard, and they felt a lil sloppy and I got a LOW TRAC light, and traction control was off! I dont know, I think my back brakes are a little low, but they dont make any noise and havent scared the rotor so I figured they would be okay, but I have no clue why that light, I know all for tires (275's up front and 315's in back) had complete traction, it was dry and warm.

Thanks,
James

The "Low Traction" light comes on when the ABS kicks in! I think same thing has happened to me once too.

the light comes on whenever the wheels slip. i had it come on when i was driving in a straight line without touching the gas or brake, becuase i went over a big bumper cruisin down a 55mph road, obviously enough weight bounced off the back tires they got loose a little. i was totally surprised

The ABS kicks in when there's a difference in the individual speeds of the tires. You've probably seen where there are wires hooked to the front hub assemblies, that's how the computer monitors the tire speed( the rear has a similar thing, but it's located in the differential housing). Hit the brakes on a dirt road or some rocks and the same thing will happen. You probably heard a "buzzing" noise from under the hood... that's the ABS motor pulsating the brake fluid pressure in the lines so that the pads won't lock down on the disks.

Neat feature... but can scare you at times cause the brakes feel mushy.

LOL the asphalt there must be really sticky, cause here I can EASILY activate the ABS (which turns on the 'low trac' light btw)

That's normal. That's just a function of the ABS and the low traction control, doing their job.

Not too sure about the low traction light, but the sloppiness you were feeling was probably brake fade. The brakes heat up to the point where they don't grip the discs as well (ie... slowing down quickly from say 100 mph). Talk to some of the autox guys and they'll tell you the same thing.
