Recap of sundays autocross action!!!

We had a few more F-body owners show up at sundays autocross, that was really cool.
One of wich gave me a nice run in the novice class, it was one of Kershners buddys "sorry im bad with names the first few times i meet people" super nice guy with a really sweet cammed NMB firehawk.
He also brought his buddy who had a really nice silver LT1 WS6 T/A.
It was both the our second autocross so i figured we might pull lap times within a few ticks of eachother, based on our seat time.
It was also nice to have another f-body owner on the same level as me to run with, since im pretty new to all this.
The rest of the guys have been doing it alot longer

My 3rd run was the best, I kept getting lost in turn one, but i think i stayed on course, pushed harder & pulled a 54 second lap time.
The Firehawk pulled 56 second lap on heat 3, i just edged him out.
Right now i really want to learn rather than trying to beat another drivers time.
But like i said it was fun to have another f-body driver on the same level to race with, the comp was cool.
Im not the only new guy now.
Im looking fwd to racing & learning with these guys, it's gonna be fun.

I know the guys in the Firehawk brought a camera & were shooting some in car.
Chuck with the sunset orange SS vert also filmed along with Jim Muller & his NBM Z28.
I hope those guys see this so they can post the vids.

Once again Chuck in the daily driven SS vert was fighting for top time against the red 5.0 SN95 Cobra, wich rolls into the events on a trailer "lol sorry just a little poke at my Ford friends".
The driver is a really cool guy though.
Jim in his LS1 Z28 & Jeff in his 94 LT1 T/A were also very close in time.
Chuck also put ona a nice drfit show that would make any drifter from Japan smile, on one of his runs, wish we got that on film!

One of the wildest cars of the event was a tube framed race car w/o a body, powered a a V8 ford of some flavor.
This thing was hauling azz around the course sliding azz out on every turn, almost lifting it's skinny front wheels off the ground.
That was a great show!

We also had a pretty cool street rally car war, there was a brand new Suby WRX STI & Mitsu Evo runing in stock.
I think the WRX STI ran faster most of the day.

Theres lots of muscle out there & the racing is like a a drug.
Lots of F-bodys & Vettes, but only two Stangs, the 5.0 Cobra & a new stock GT "you Ford people need to represent".
I cant wait for the next one & i keep pushing harder every event.
One more event in novice for me then im moved into my class.
You guys should come check it out, you'll get hooked.
Theres nothing like pushing a car through the turns as hard as you can.

BTW thanks Jeff, Chuck & Jim for being cool & helping the newbie out.

No prob Gerry. Glad to finally get some more guys in the group. We tend to talk a little smack after you've been here a while. But we'll still share any helpful hints or techniques that might help too. Even as competative as I'm getting this year, due to my standing in the points, it's really just for fun. I just wish Glenn would keep that Cobra home for once so I could gain a few more points on the leaders. I'm only about 5 points out of the lead now.

It sure is a blast to be able to push a high prformance car to (and past) its limits in a safe environment without fear of prosecution.

I wish we could have got that first run with the drift on tape. For those that weren't there, it was a 180 degree lefty with about a 45 foot radius coming out of a tight but opening slalom. I was in 1st gear right at the rev limit exiting the slalom and let off the gas too quick going into the 180. Drop throttle oversteer was pretty much immediate and I was at full right lock feathering the gas through almost the entire turn. It tucked right into the exit gate pointed in the right direction. It was real slow but I'm sure it looked cool. It sure was fun from my point of view. We did get my third run on tape. It was just about as good. Then after 2 more fun runs I noticed why I was having so much trouble with left hand turns. My right rear was down to the cord in several places. Not just the edge but right in the center too. Whoops! Then I had to drive home on them. DOH! Time for fresh tires. See ya next time hopefully.

Glad you made it home on that corded POS. I don't think you should get new race rubber though your street tires will do just fine. Hey how else am I going to finally beat you. New race rubber and the upcoming Gainesville event sounds like fun to me.

How did that in car video come out? Me and the camera were bouncing all over the place so it can't be to good.

The video on the camera is pretty good. I just can't get good resolution on the PC. The standard interface is USB which isn't fast enough. The captured video is too grainy and choppy. I even installed my brother's old 32meg GeForce2 video card with video capture, bought an S-Video cable and tried that. But in both MovieMaker and Adobe Premiere the capture has a wide horizontal white band through the center of the video. It's not there in the preview screen but once the video gets captured it's crap.

Any ideas?

Nice recap Gerry! This is William with the NBM Firehawk. You edged me out by 2 seconds, which in the autox world is like 2 minutes. Good job on your runs! I wonder how the LT1 WS6 guy, Scott, finished. I learned a lot. One, is that I really need to slow down going into the turns. Too much time lost braking, holding my clutch, and running over cones through the turns. With all the power my car has now, it really showed me that smoothness rivals raw power on the autox course.

Chuck, does that camera have firewire output? I have firewire input on both my PC and laptop at home and if you have the software I can upload it to do some video editing. You can stop by this weekend if you have the time and we can get the movies downloaded. Saturday is good for me, besides I will be replacing my window motor that day so you can see my mad mechanic skills

Scott finished third in the novice class with a 50.xx time. He was very fast for his first time out and ran a 48.0x on his last fun run. That is a very quick time on a street tired car.

Chuck, I know nothing about video capture so no help here.

Saturday is bad. We have a MSCC member's only event. Sorry.

And Scott did very good for his first attempt. He's got Jeff and I sweating. Hopefully he won't mod his car and stays in stock class for a while.
