Miata. That's the one car that comes to mind, whether you're talking about autoX or RR.

i would vote for the c4 just because im not convinced i could even fit in a miata plus its a miata. It all depends on what type of cars youre competing with however the c-4's arent too bulky...good aerodynamics....and you can fit a good size engine in there to match up with the power to weight of the smaller cars.

Yes, I have it and will sell for $500 or trade for various small block
Chevy parts. It's a 1985 MR2 that was last raced as an ITA car but the previous owner started building it to SCCA Road racing F-Production limited prep rules. It has a full cage with a Petty bar, Nascar style 3-bar door bar on the drivers side. The cage is tied into the rear shock/spring towers. It has an aluminum race seat and a removeable steering wheel.

The car is complete with engine and transmission and all hooked up. However, the previous owner said that something electrical went bad when on the track and the motor just turned off. The air inlet sensor needs to be replaced and it looks like some of the relays have been exposed and gone bad in the circuit board.

The suspension/brakes, etc. are all stock with the springs cut to lower the car.

I was going to get it all set up to do some road course events but have decided to keep with what I know, my Corvette, and focus my attention on it. I have the car stored in my new shop, right now but will be taking pictures and putting it up for sale very soon. But, if someone wants to put together a good $2004 challenge car, this could be it.

Re: Vehicle selection for car club?

id rather have his vette. actually i might let him drive the 87 once i get it out there. hopefully that wont be too long from now.

you want cheap parts, so i wouldnt look at a vette. most of it is nothing special, but some of the parts are costly. they are hard to work on as well. the early C4s are such a departure from what they became that its annoying. but if you want something to play with and dont mind taking your time to do any repairs, go for it. they make badass cars.

Now that's a heck of a deal for a beater autox car. 500 bucks for a running MR2 is good.

Re: Vehicle selection for car club?

DSM's are NOT realiable unfortunatelly. Plus a lot of them have been in serious accidents, as a lot of kids think that awd makes them invincible, and the turbo is sure fun to spin, so they end up trying to take corners at 90, and that just can't end well on a street. A friend of mine who owns a body shop and a general garage says that DSM's have some of the most fanatical following, but it also needs to be that way, as some racers that come over every month, for either a new trans or a new engine.
I'd vote mr2. very proven engine, proper layout, middle engine, which of course makes it a bitch to work on.
If you want simple, get a miata, drop a 302 ford in it, it will do low 12s stock, and it's all very cheap.

Yes, the Mr2 are reliable but hard to find 93+.
DSM you can pick a 91+ in every place Or 95+ for less that a 91+ Mr2 turbo.
I want a car to dailydrive and have some fun wit in some OT,RR.
I want a car wit max 200 hp for start in RR and cheap, the 4 Cly turbo 91+ in mitsu and toyota look the better I like a lot the celice all trac 92 to 94 they are great cars but even worse to find one,
the BMW 93+ 318 and 325 are any good and reliable? in the Road races they look very well in the times table.
