A/C system help pls....
Well, i'm driving along with the A/C on and it starts blowing warm, took it over to the shop i use and they say it needs a compressor, Estimate was damn near $800!! Forget all that!
How hard of a job will it be do do myself? I know I need to take it back and get it recharged, but as far as the actual compressor, is it a PITA?
Also, they said I should get a new expansion valve and reciever dryer at the same time, does this sound right?
Thanks guys!

yes when replacing the comp you should change drier and exp valve to comp is not hars at all three bolts on the front and like 2-3 10mm bolts on the back plus the 13mm line bolt i did mine on my lift in like 2hrs make sure to get new comp not used or reman you will regret it if you do
if your comp. went out it dumped debris in your system and will kill your new one
the comp. not to bad just take the time to pay attention to what you are doing
the dryer and cappilary can be a little trickey
dryer not to bad but the capilary likes to break then you have to dig out the peices
not hard just time consuming
definatly make shure you clean the system to get all the crud from the old comp. out or you will do this again shortly

yes thanks above, make sure to flush the system if the comp came apart i would change the core also the tolerances in there are so small i dont think you would ever get the crap out BTW in School my instructor said "to make an A/c system work like it did when you got it after a problem has occurred, change the whole system if you dont it will not ever work like it is supposed to" and believe me he is right i tried just doing the comp and drier and valve nope didnt work changed the core worked ok, changed the condensor wholla perfect A/C make sure they pull a negeative vac -35psi to check for leaks and do it for about 45 mins to make sure all moisture is out, moisture is number one killer of an A/C system hope this helps
well, i found a used compressor fo $45 on the boards, but thats a bad idea from what i gather. New ones run $300, the reciver dryer and expansion valve will run abou $75 for both
Im up to allmost $500 with evac and recharge, that doing it myself without the new core (125) and condensor(170). Thats alot of friggin $$$$!!! 1le A/C delete pulley is like $40, I may just do that and pray my orders that come in december are for somewhere that its not hot.......I dont want to start just pulling stuff off the car because its still really nice and un-molested, and i like my A/C, but that is just too much $$$. I can find a beater with cold A/C for less than that! Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for the responses guys!

BTW: the shop said that the clutch was bad because it would blow a fuse as soon as they put a new one in, but the compressor was leaking oil also....sound right? They said I had plenty of r134 though.....
if its leaking oil it would leak 134 also and if you qwant to half *** it and hope for the best do the used comp it cant hurt to muchnever know it may work sometimes it does sometimes it dont whats the most you would lose 150 buck just tryt it and see
