SC cam without the sc

I'm going to be doing a rebuild in a couple months.. My eventual goal is to put on a procharger. During this rebuild I was planning on building it to take the supercharger, but will not be able to afford the actual supercharger for another year.
I would like to go with the JE forged pistons, some supercharger cam (not picked yet), heads will be worked with a nice valve job......
The question is could a rebuild of this type be driven safely without a supercharger for a year? Can the pistons take it and will a SC cam be ok without a supercharger for now?

OR

Would it be easier to just to the heads, something like the cc305 and long tube heads for now? then I could rebuild the bottom end when the sc goes on......

Any opinions/advise would be great..

hey Tibby. If it were me, I wouldn't bother ripping apart the engine if I wasn't gonna do it all at once. I mean I would throw a cam in there, but if I knew I was gonna rip it all apart again, then I would just wait.

P.S. - I've seen you on ws6zxr.com alot. Where did you get the windshield banner for your Z28?

You can get it to run fine but you won't have as much of a performance gain like you would if you were building it for an all motor set up.
Make a post in the FI forum and there are a few vette guys with SC's that have been over cams again and again. IMHO if you want a cam that is easy to tune with a blower and runs decent on the street I would do the CC305.

A good blower cam that makes good N/A power with a good power band is the CC XE 224/236. Get the lower lift version on a 114 or 115 lsa. The main problem driving a FI engine without the blower is the lowered compression. It should be okay but I don't really have experience to know.

You should be fine a blower cam. The only thing that would affect your performance would be the lowered compression ratio. How much power you'll lose, I don't know, but you will still make descent power. The xe cam in my sig is designed for a blower/nitrous and I made good power. Although if I had a blower I would've gotten a 114 lobe center at least. I've seen people make good power with a 114 lobe on my cam also. I plan on doing a blower setup in the future and due to cost, I'm going to get a stroker first then the blower. Just my .02 cents.

I have a 8.3:1 compression and a sc cam, but I dont have my procharger installed because I want to pay off the car first. Car runs fine, just needed a different tune, and you have alot less hp due to the low C/R

A lot less huh. that's no good.
I've read a lot of good things about the cc305, a guy in our club got some good gains on the cam and rr's alone.
Anything bad about using the cc305 cam with a sc?

how is a blower cam different than the cc305?

Cmr0z28: I got the windshield banner and all the other graphics from http://www.fourthcircledesigns.com/ he goes by EVILFACE on ws6zxr.com and does excellent work to say the least.

Nothing wrong with using a cc305 cam with a blower, just make sure it has at least a 114 lobe seperation angle. Supercharger cams usually have a dual pattern duration which relies on more exhaust duration to empty out the pressurized intake charge more effectively and a wider lobe seperation angle. Hope this helps.
