Posting this here to get a better response. I'm having a problem with starting my friend's 96 V6 camaro, when he places the key in the ignition to start, the security light comes on and will not allow me to start my car, after about 15 minutes it resets itself and light will go off and at that time I can start the car, this is an everyday occurance, can someone help???? Has only done this since replacing the alternator and battery a few days ago.

 

Clean the diode on the key. Happened to me and it seems to be the fix.

 

sounds like a PASS-Key II issue with chip in key. try using his extra key to see if symptom remains. like mentioned above key might need some cleaning. It can also happen if the key is wet; so make sure key is dry.
