Free coolant?
I was just listening to the Motor Man(Leon Kaplin) on the radio, and he says that if a dealer or manufacturer dictates that your car must use orange coolant over green, then they must supply that product free.Anybody here of this before?(Or thier product,or a certain product?)He also runs the green stuff in all his vehicles, and some of those are running blowers. He says if you do run the orange stuff, this should be changed every 30,000 mi or so,as he has seen this stuff turn to almost mud, blowing water pumps, and causing other issues when not changed till 100,000mi.He also uses oil without syns. but changes his oil every 3000 or so.No flames please, just something I heard today
(I bekieve he said he has a one year old ford pickup with a blower,a 40 ford stock,a suburban, and others including an airplane.)(a lawnmower as well).My02

well I believe theres a clause soewhere that states if a specific type or brand of part must be used for normal maintenance in order to not void a warranty, the manufacturer must supply that brand/type free of charge. i'm sure there are stipulations on that, but its out there somewhere.
I have also heard of a lot of bad stuff with Dexcool (the orange stuff) especially regarding sludge buildup. I wouldn't personally touch the stuff, and a quick search on Google for Dexcool solidified that opinion.
It really isn't necessary to use synthetic oil, but it does resist coking and breakdown a lot better. Generally if you change your oil every 3mo/3000mi your fine. Synthetic oil just provides some added protection and frees up a few HP due to lower friction.

I have seen real bad problems w/ the dexcool. my friend's heater core was about clogged up w/ orange sludge, had to pull both hoses and flush out w/ air/water hose. you could hear it bubbling up in the heater core going down the road. not cool.
just keep it changed every 3 yrs/ 36,000 miles, don't listen to the 5 yrs change. It will give you lots of grief.
good luck.
