widest tire on stock rims?

I need to get new tires for my car. Whats the widest tire i can get for the stock rims. Also what are some good tires to get. I want tires that will grip really good. But not drag radials because i have to drive to work 40 miles on the freeway everyday so i want them to last. I've heard kumhos are good. What other tires are good. That is also not extremely expensive because i'm on a budget. Thanks.

255/50/16 is the widest you'll want to put on the stock wheels. Personally, I'd stick with the 245/50/16 if you're not gonna go with the 255 BFG drag radials.
There are lots of opinions on tires, so if you haven't done so, do a search and see what people say about some of the tires in your price range.

Well i did some searching but coudn't really find anything. But since i plan on getting some rims and tires in about 6 months or so i don't wanna get some really expensive tires. Just some that are good but not to expensive. Anything should be better then the bald continental peices of crap i have on there now.

If you only need 6 months out of them, then get some cheap tires like Futuras from Pep Boys. I think Kumho also makes a decent cheap tire.

who made it? I did countless searches when I had my Iroc for something bigger than 255 for 16's and couldn't find a thing.

Sure they do, my friend ordered 4 for his v6 a while back from me, And there i no such thing as 265/50/16, the 255/50 is the biggest size unless u want to go with 275/65's or some goofy size like that, cant remember exactly. Personally i would just stick with the 245/50.
