Why $12 for a supporting member?

Curious what you get for $12? Hosting...videos...etc?

Unless I am missing something...why $12?

Just curious.

The basics are here:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/payments.php

The in-depth info is here:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/faq.p...porting_member

We are in the process of adding an additional feature or two since we upgraded the server, but that takes a bit of time to make sure it is done right.

Unless I am missing something...why $12?
A buck a month didn't seem like too much to ask for those who find value in the upgrades.

Re: Why $12 for a supporting member?

I read that...thought maybe I was missing something.

What I am trying to convey is to pay $12 for something that allows me to do what vs. someone how pays nothing.

Play with my avatar.
Have 200 more messages in my mailbox.

How about for $12 a year you allow me to:

Search every 10 seconds?
Have the option to turn off ads?
Have a specific forum(s) for supporting members?
Maybe a higherbanwidth option?

See what I am saying?

Right...plus a couple of other things mentioned.

How about for $12 a year you allow me to:

Search every 10 seconds?
I don't think that is possible for certain peple without hacking the site. The bigger problem It would make the site bog if too many people were hammering the database with server-intensive searches.

Have the option to turn off ads?
Sorry, we need those to survive. The advertisers pay the site so their ads get seen, not so they can get turned off.

Have a specific forum(s) for supporting members?
Kinda thought about that...but to talk about what?

Maybe a higherbanwidth option?
We can't make it any faster than what it is. See the part above about 10 second searches.

See what I am saying?
Yeah...I think you as saying that you are one who doesn't find value in the additional features for $1 a month. That's okay, not everyone does...that's why it is an option. Some people feel that even in a short amount of time, this site has helped them save multiple times that, so they feel the need to help out in return and get some cool bonus features. Others just like the site for what it is and that's cool too. Like I said, that's why it is an option.

Thanks for the suggesions, wish we could accomodate you.

Re: Why $12 for a supporting member?

I am only saying that ONLY supporting members have the option to:

have quicker searches(hackers I doubt would pay just to hack)
the option of having no ads(I know where the vendors tab is)
forums(or how about allowing supporting members to imbed images)
faster bandwidth for only supporting members(not that it is slow...just something if the above was in place)

If your not a supporting member, you abide by the rules set in place.

For $12, you need more perks.

I was a supporting member last year & I bought your Dragracing game. I have supported this site.

I think it would be cool if supporting members could do more.

Once again, I am sorry you don't think that what you get is worth $1 a month, if that is what you are saying. We don't make you obligated to pay it. Enjoy the site on the level that you want to.

We really appreciate that, thanks for the support. Don't forget that you got a video game in return. Hope you liked it!

Re: Why $12 for a supporting member?

Hey Jason, I paid for my 2nd year the other day, and it still hasn't gone through.

When I originally did it last year, my Supporting Member status was activated within moments. Did something go wrong this time or is it not automated (and needs to be ok'd manually)?

First of all, you went through the process at http://web.camaross.com/forums/payments.php, right?

You probably did, and if so...log into your PayPal account, and check the status of the payment.

And then read the I just began my subscription, but my account is not updated. Why? entry...

Ahhh, I see. It still says uncleared. I don't know why it would take so long, I'm Paypal verified... and I only have 2 grand in my checking.

Okay, thanks.

No sweat. It depends on how you have your PayPal account set up. If you have it being pulled from a checking account, the funds have to clear just like a check does.

Yeah it comes out of my checking. I guess that explains it

I must have had my account set up differently last year.

Why do you have to get something out of it? This site has given so much to all of us by allowing us to share and help each other. I bet half of the stuff I bought for my car was purchased from members or supporting advertisers. Even if you can host it yourself, web sites aren't free to run. I for one am gratefull for the site adn the people that maintain and keep it going, I'm also a little embarased I've never thought about contributing to it's continued success.

I'll fix that in a minute.

Re: Why $12 for a supporting member?

That's great...I never said for people not give money.

But since you are getting so much out of it you did send more than $12.00? Right?

Maybe you missed my point...if a member does not become a supporting member...nothing changes for that member other than not having an additional 200 messages and to play with his/her avatar.

That is all I am saying.
