seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
seems like there are a lot of scams going on about this site. it's a great knowledge site, but unless I know you from z-28.com, i'm not even interested. admins should remove these clowns.
also, way too many TTT messages here. it's just about impossible for your message to stay on page 1 long enough to get a response.
i'll just do my homework here and my business elsewhere. hate to have to worry, but i don't wanna end up with a box of junk and 28 people already knew the clown was a scammer and yet he still posts.

Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
Its too bad that peice of sh*t scammers have to ruin it for everyone else. Not only does the person buying from the scammer get ripped off but it also takes away from the other honest sellers who have excellent dealings with every customer they encounter bc they dont know whether to trust them.
Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
Just take the time to try and get a "feel" for the seller before you purchase an item from them. I generally will check out the persons previous posts to see if I can try to gather what type of person they are, if they tipe lyke thse then generally I pass on the deal
. I also ask for photo's of the items for sale and contact information.
Luckily my transactions that have stemmed from this site have went well. I've spent several $1000 through the F/S Section on here and on LS1Tech.com as well. Great way of finding some sweet deals!

Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
Guys,
There are only a few simple rules you need to follow that will help to ensure you don't get scammed and your transaction goes smoothly.
1) Look at the post count and/or time registered on this board. While a person who just registered yesterday might be 100% fine, that can also be a sign somebody is just looking to scam you. A high post count doesn't 100% guarantee the transaction will go smoothly but if somebody has been here for quite a while and is established and contributes to this board, the chances are good they will provide you with a good transaction because they don't want their name run through the mud here.
Sometimes I only look at post count and/or time on this site and that is good enough for me. If somebody has not been here for long and has a low post count then I'd continue on to #2.
2) Go to www.switchboard.com and see if the person exists there and the address they provided matches with what is shown online. If so, chances are decent no scam. Many people don't have their number listed and therefore won't show up here so don't bank on this alone... just another thing you can check. If it is going to be a PayPal payment or money order to a P.O. Box then simply ask them what their address is. If they stumble they might be making it up. If they readily give it to you then that probably means they don't mind you knowing where they live. If they are going to screw you then chances are good they'd prefer you NOT know where they live and they won't want to give up their home address
3) Ask for a phone number to call the person at... both a home number and work number if possible. I have found that if somebody is looking to scam ya, they are not so quick to give out their number. If they have no intentions of scamming you, they should readily give you their number so you can call them and talk about the item. If they him haw around about this and make up excuses why they don't want to give you their number, don't do business with them. Don't be satisfied with them calling YOU either... make sure you call them.
4) If STILL uneasy ,try to send a US Postal Money Order instead of PayPal and, if possible, send it to a street address and not a P.O. Box. Some people only have a P.O. box and no mailbox so just because they are using a P.O. Box doesn't automatically make them a scammer but, typically, scammers like P.O. Boxes over street addresses because it is difficult to kick his *** through a P.O. Box but fairly easy to show up at his front door. I have never used a money order purposely over PayPal but just throwing this out there for you paranoid types
5) If STILL YET feeling uneasy about the person after doing all the above then you can always ask for references. I've never done this and if the person is willing to give up their work/home numbers and you know their street address, this is probably a bit much. But, if they don't have a job and don't have a home phone and aren't listed in any online phone books and you still REALLY want the item the person has, asking for a reference might help ease your mind.
6) For the extremely paranoid or if you want the most protection, use an online escrow type service. They charge a percentage and act as the middleman. They ensure there are actual funds and an actual item. However, this is a pain and if I'm selling something and you want to use an escrow middle man service like this, I'll tell you that I'll get back with you in a few weeks and if I'm unable to sell the item, I'll consider it. That is not because I'm looking to scam you but rather I'm not going to mess with the hassle. Some might so this may work for ya.
Some will also suggest using UPS C.O.D. However, if I'm a seller, I'm not doing that myself. Too often it seems people have abused this and for stupid reasons (blew all their money partying the night before for example) they won't have the money for when the item arrives. Sure, the item will come back to the seller but guess who gets stuck with the shipping and C.O.D. charges... yep, the seller but he never sold the item! So, I don't do C.O.D. so I wouldn't expect others to do it either.
I've bought tens of thousands of dollars of stuff off the net and have yet to get shafted. I just follow my own made up rules above and so far so good. Is there a 100% guarantee... nope, but following the above recommendations will help
Hmm... I think that's a pretty damn good list if I do say so myself. LOL!
I should post this separately and have em make it a sticky

Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
I totally agree with Brent about asking for a phone number. I would never buy something without talking to a real, live person before sending out money!
If they're out to scam you, they're not gonna want you to be able to call them.

Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
Just another post to say that there are a lot of good people on this board. Most everyone here is honest, and it's the few scammers who ruin it for everyone. I haven't made a lot of deals on here but the ones I have done have went great. The previous post was right - you just need to get a feel for the seller and if you get a bad vibe then hold off. Just my $0.02 but I think this board is a great resource...
Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
How about this clown...OrangeSRT4.
He's not only a clown but a scammer and a liar.
I have a PM from him admitting that he scammed me.
I have to agree that research is key and that you have to be very careful. I also believe that there should be a section for feedback and that known scammers should be banned.
I also understand that the moderators/owners of this site can't and shouldn't be blamed for any of these problems. I do think that there needs to be a more agressive approach to eliminate scammers.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great site and the moderators/owners have done an outstanding job with it. I can't give them enough praise for that.
It would just be nice if there was a way to minimize the scammers and thieves that show up on here.
I know that there are bad apples in every bunch but I guess I'm still idealistic enough to not accept that getting ripped off should be acceptable.
To the moderators: Keep up the great work guys...there's a lot of us out here that truly appreciate the work you've done here.

Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
I have done a few deals on here too.
So far everything has went well. I did have a small problem with the latest one but it seems to be purely a mail mix up and not on purpose.
I think you need to add a few things to the list.
Sellers: Be totally honest with your situation, if its going to be a few days or even weeks before the parts are able to be shipped then make sure the buyer knows whats going on. Explain the situation twice if thats what it takes, don,t just mention it in passing. People are paying hard earned money for these parts they expect prompt delivery and should get it. Keep the lines of cummunication open, this helps ease a nervous mind tremendously.
Buyers: Don,t be so hasty to jump on boards and put the hammer down on someone who did not ship your parts the exact minute they recieved your payment. Nobody is perfect and stuff happens so make sure you have taken every step to insure the money got to the person and they are purposefully putting you off or have cut off communication entirely.
Treat others as you would want to be treated, and don,t get angry if someone is PMing or Emailing you to get a status report, Some people save for weeks or months just to buy the part your selling, its only natural they want to check on it.
I would rather buy and sell my F body stuff on here cause its obvious you people love the car as much as I do.

thanks for all the responses. i know that 99.9% of you folks are on the up n up...we're all into the F-Body!!! it's just that i saw a lot of childish posts in the last couple of weeks that i'm not used to seeing on other forums re: scamming and flaming. i'm all into sharing parts, info, knowledge etc...i love the info i get here and i've done a great deal here. i just would like to see folks act more like a community and less like babies. my 2c, for whatever it's worth.
this is a busy place, but i do see a lot of ttt's. it's hard to keep up with the forums sometimes, but hey if you're the biggest site, i guess it's to be expected.
didn't mean to offend anyone, but the namecalling stuff is BS and scamming is BS and anyone that's in a fued about a potential scam should be held from posting until the admin is satisfied that all is AOK, and banned if found to be a true scammer. don't quite know how the admin would work this, but it's just an idea from a member that likes the site a lot. i'd say that being agressive in dealing with feuds may be the way to go for the admins. again, just a thought out loud...
enjoy your launches folks!!! can't wait to lay my 325 to the pavement tomorrow!

I got caught up in an alleged lack of communication deal. I was fortunate in that I got my money back, probably because the guy was on the level. But a weeks worth of missed deadlines and a laundry list of excuses, all of which I had to inititate the conversation, just made me nervous.
Sure, he clled me names and tried very hard to justify his lack of communication.
As a seller, if you know you aren't gonna have the time to field a bunch of questions, keep tabs on who is asking and then ship in a timely manner, then don't post your stuff for sale until you do have the time.
Re: seen enough...i'll shop elsewhere
Why do threads like this never go anywhere?
Administrators:
I'm not trying to start any trouble or **** anyone off but I'm curious as to why you choose to allow repeated scammers to use your forums? Again, I'm not blaming you for any of this but some tools to be able to identify and post information about known scammers would be helpful I'm sure. Also, I think repeated scammers should be banned from posting in the for sale section.
Don't get me wrong, I don't blame you or believe that you can stop scammers from ripping people off but making things a little more self policing would be nice.
This is a great site and you guys have done an outstanding job with it. I don't think anyone expects CamaroZ28.com to ever get involved in chasing or prosecuting scammers but creating a means of making them visable would
offer some protection to the users here.
