it just lets you know that they have read it, bu obviously they haven't replied yet. people will get threads and never read them (the sender would never get a reciept and know), and theres those that read them but don't have the time to write an essay, so the reciept lets the sender know it was read and a response is possibly on the way whenever the reciever has time.
