how bout this...
how bout this...
let me start by saying this is a fantastic site. i've learned so much about my car here. don't know what i'd do if it ever went away...
now my suggestion: when you're in the forum looking at the page that has each thread listed, when moving the mouse over each thread title, and without clicking on it, is it possible to have a small popup that shows the first couple lines of the first post in the thread? this would help in that a user wouldn't have to click on and open the thread if they can see that it is of no interest to them by simply moving the mouse over the title...
thanks.

We know what you mean, and we know other sites do that, but we have our reasons for not doing that.
It loads that little sample of text for EACH and EVERY thread, regardless if you are going to actually read that sample or go to that thread or not. This is TONS of extra data loaded that gets unused. Multiply that by the hundreds of people viewing the board at one time, and it is that much more data served up for nothing.
The TITLE of the thread is intended to give the reader an indication of what the contents are about. I know it doesn't help the situation when someone titles a post like "How many of you..." or "Is it good or bad when..." or "What does this happen?" ...pretty much making you click the link just to find out what the damn thread is even about.
But, that is the nature of things, I am sorry to say.
I know what you mean by your suggestion, but we'd rather deal with poorly written titles than have a slow site...I think...

I HATE THAT!!!

The message preview thing wouldn’t be necessary if people stopped putting obscure, worthless tittles on their posts. You know, ones like “how bout this...”
