The achilles heal of this forum and its performance

Using Mozilla Firefox either at home or at work I constantly am waiting for "oz.valueclick.com", which appears to be the banner on the left, to actually load.

Like 9/10ths of the page will load in under a second or two most of the time, but then I spend anywhere from an additional 2-10 seconds waiting for oz.valueclick.com

This is not a complaint so much as it is a suggestion. I know you guys pay a pretty penny for the hardware that runs this board, and it has been one of the fastest on the 'net consistantly over the years. But when you have an ad server that is increasing every single page load time anywhere from 100 to 1000%... I would figure you guys might want to know.

Heck... maybe it's just a DNS thing in my area and all of the rest of y'all are sitting pretty?

I gotta lean to that direction, as I use Firefox as well and don't normally have the same problems. I use it at work on crappy DSL and still have little to no problems.

I will keep it in mind, though...but even at that I am not sure what the alternative is. Sorry you are having problems!

It's even worse today. This is on both my laptop at home (Time Warner Road Runner) and at work (Time Warner T1).

I even did a ping test and on average am only getting about a 80% return rate.

I did a tracert and once it got to my telco it went like this: (I removed the first two hops)
Copied and pasted:
3 15 ms <10 ms <10 ms tagg-01-t1-6-0-0-21-0.mmph.twtelecom.net [66.192.225.21]
4 <10 ms 16 ms <10 ms dist-02-so-3-2-0-0.mmph.twtelecom.net [66.192.241.77]
5 16 ms 15 ms 16 ms 66.192.243.18
6 <10 ms 16 ms 31 ms tran-01-ge-0-2-0-0.atln.twtelecom.net [66.192.243.33]
7 31 ms 16 ms 31 ms so-2-1-0.gar1.Atlanta1.Level3.net [67.72.8.37]
8 31 ms 31 ms 31 ms so-0-3-0.bbr1.Atlanta1.Level3.net [4.68.96.9]
9 63 ms 78 ms 78 ms ge-0-1-0.bbr1.SanJose1.Level3.net [64.159.1.129]
10 63 ms 78 ms 78 ms ge-7-1.ipcolo1.SanJose1.Level3.net [4.68.123.73]
11 62 ms 79 ms 78 ms unknown.Level3.net [63.215.192.182]
12 93 ms 203 ms 219 ms pos4-0-0.sw-core1.la.vclk.net [63.215.202.249]
13 * * 78 ms adclst03.valueclick.com [64.70.54.44]
As you can see... the holdup doesn't seem to occure until well it's almost at its destination.

Are you guys talking about the hang where nothing happens for such a long time though everything is loaded? On my screen, it sits with only the camaroz28 banner up at the top, though it says everything is loaded.

I surf at work, home and a friend's house, and all use completely different ISPs, so it can't be DNS. However, we all use IE 6. I thought that was it.

NO, it will hang up when it says "waiting for oz.valueclick.com" on the bottom, but eventually it will load.

Same thing happens with me quite frequently - at home and at work - with 2 different ISP's.

it's getting old.

I am really sorry guys, but I cannot explain why you have a problem.

I use Mozilla and I don't have the same problem, even on crappy DSL at work. I don't know why it would be a problem with some people and not a problem with others.

Do you all have the same problem with IE or just Mozilla?

Like I said, I am sorry but there is really not much we can do about it.

I dont know if this matters, but I dont use the whole mozilla package. I only downloaded Firefox for my web browser.

D'oh! Sorry, I mean to say that I also use Mozilla Firefox, not the Mozilla package. Thanks for the reminder.

I get roughly the same delays loading the site using internet explorer, it's just that IE doesn't like to give users any insight into what exactly it's waiting to load... it just says "loading'
