ABS code C1244-help

Hi, had my engine out and back in and got this code and got the abs inop light. The used to be a race car and over the years it would come on at random then go away, maybe 4 times in 14 yrs racing. I've had the engine in and out prob 7 times and I've never had this light. Nkw I've restored the whole car so the brake lines were left open for like 2.5 yrs. c1244, the scanner says "left front channel wont move CURRENT". Don't know why current is capitalized. I tried to cleae the code but it won't clear. Would unhooking the battery reset something? Anyone have a clue what this means? Thanks-

What year is the car? I can give you a link to a (free) download of the factory service manual. The code description and fixes would be more complete and vehicle specific the what you see on a generic scanner list.

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Gave you a bum steer on this one. Looked in the 1996 manual and they are still using 2-digit codes. Looked at 1998, thinking maybe they changed the ABS in 1997/98 and highest code description is C-901.

Is your system ABS (only) or ABS+ASR (traction control)?

There is an earlier thread mentioning your code, but they didn't seem to figure it out. I did find the codes mentioned in 1993-1998 Chilton's, C1244 description is similar to yours. But no help beyond that:

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Sorry forgot to mention it. It's a 97 abs only. I was getting the impression reading other posts that I may have a 98 up abs also.

I don't know if you've been on this site recently….. basically not many of the old time “helpers” left. Maybe a 1/2-dozen people that come here once a week or so. Some days there are no new posts, other than a few from some SPAMMERS from India. I'm here every day, and try to help where I can, but I don’t know much about the ABS.

Re: ABS code C1244-help

I can’t find any evidence that C1244 was ever a code on any Camaro.

I did find it on a ‘99 Cavalier and Lumina, some Toyotas and Lexuses, and one Ford truck.

Here’s the diagnostic procedure for that code from the Cavalier. Follow those instructions and see where it leads you!

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Thanks injuneer and the rest of you. I know it doesn't seem to be.a common code. I hooked the left front wire to a new hub, no difference. There was no light before I swapped the motor so I've got a friend with a tech 1 or 2 and I'm hoping we just need to do the computer bleeding thing and that's it. If this place is so sparse where is everyone going? Ls1tech.com?

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Thanks - I looked at my copy of the service manual but its for a 2000 camaro. If you could give me the link to the 1996 that would be great, thanks-

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Nevermind I just found it. Im seeing the same thing you mentioned before, the 96 has 2 digit codes, the 2000 has 4 digit starting with a C like the code I have. But of course none of them listed is C1244. Also, the ABS module in the 96 manual looks like mine, the on in the 2000 book looks nothing like mine. Of course.

I have little hope that bleeding will solve anything.

LS1tech still has decent traffic. Nothing like it was (here either) ten years ago; both have been decimated by Facebook.

I can’t say whether you’ll get much help from LS1tech for a non-LS car. I’ve never had an LT1 car, so couldn’t say what that’s like over there, but they’re still super helpful for LS stuff. Worth a shot!

Speaking of Facebook, there are several FB Groups for our cars that still get a ton of traffic. Join a few of those and give it a shot.

You can get free, full service manuals for tons of cars from the 80s to the mid 2010s at https://charm.li. That’s where stuff for the Cavalier is which I linked above.

I think it’s likely that LS1 F-cars and other contemporary models from GM use the same physical module, or at least very similar ones. That’s why I posted the link to the ‘99 Cavalier manual. See if you can find photos of that car’s module, and see if it looks the same. If it does, then I’d guess that someone mixed up a part number or a vehicle fitment guide, and you don’t technically have the right part.

Re: ABS code C1244-help

FYI, I looked at the codes in the 1996 service manual and it turns out the 2 digit code for "left front channel wont move CURRENT" is... 44! So I think I prob have a 1996 version of ABS and my scanner (actron) for some reason just threw 2 more random numbers in front(?)

Re: ABS code C1244-help

I wonder if this issue is related to a scanner database error. I see you using the Actron. They are usually very reliable. We know the LT1 code database in the OBD-1/OBD-2 Equus and Innova scanners is corrupt, and returns codes that don’t exist, and codes that aren’t actually set.

In a general internet search, I found 5 references to this Pxxxx code from 4th Gen F-Body owners. The one on our CZ28.com that I linked above was a 98. I found one which was posted by an 95 owner (boggles the mind).

Then there is the lengthy table of ABS codes in my 93-98 Chilton’s that lists this code. But Chilton’s is not a paragon of accuracy.

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Well fellas, one step forward one step back. It bugged me that it just started now. And I thought maybe the "Front left" thing wasn't accurate. When I put the rear axle and suspension in I forgot to plug in the rear sensor. Abs light out. But the brake light is still on. No codes on the reader. Does a 97 camaro have a brake fluid reservoir sensor? I can't seem to find one but its often recommended to unplug it to see if the light goes out?

Re: ABS code C1244-help

I looked for one on the oreily website and they list one for 98 up but not 97. I guess if there isn't an electrical plug in the reservoir or the master cylinder there can't be right?

Re: ABS code C1244-help

Did you look at the link provided for the 1997 manual (doesn’t look like a repro of the complete factory manual, but what do I know?)?
