edelbrock LSX heads
i'd like to just do the heads and cam and intake swap out; then maybe later on down the road when this engine dies i can do something even MORE in depth
When I said "correct", I meant that "big inch" was indeed a reference to boring and stroking. I said that if I were getting heads, I'd be going big-inch at the same time. Since I like the L92 heads, I'd obviously be looking at a 4" bore. What stroke I'd choose is irrelevant to this discussion.
LQ9 heads will fit on an LS1, but it will kill your compression due to larger combustion chambers, and thus torque. Use those bigger bore heads for a boosted application, not a naturally aspirated engine.
Big inch refers to more cubic inches.
LS6 heads will work great. Big runners on ported LS6 castings are what you want if you want to shine at the track. In fact, big runner LS6 heads outperform ALL aftermarket stock valve angle heads. The PRC LS6 heads are THE best CNC LS6 heads on the market, period. There are a couple of better LS6 heads out there, but they are hand ported, have a huge wait time, and cost over a grand more.
jmmullin - Goto CarMaxWorld and check out CarMax cars in the What's New? section. You'll find the most recent entry quite interesting
Finally, no need to go with more cubes when doing a head swap. A properly setup H/C 346 will provide more than most people are looking for, and do it for a 1/4 of the cost of a bigger inch engine.

thanks for the responses
marc - haha i always check out the carmax cars...i was thinking about putting mine up there for consideration whenever it all gets finished in a few months. the last one i saw was the dude with the acura, subaru and f150...i'll be going in around 5 today so I'll check it out. did you talk to mike yet? I still haven't talked to Jason...he does have the biggest toolbox i think i have ever seen though. he had a nice 84 vette up on the lift someone was buying out of wholesale last time i looked at his station. whos car is up on the site? is it yours?

There's TONS of bad info on this page, so I'd like to elaborate.
The 317 casting heads (LQ9) fit perfectly fine on an LS1. They are nearly identical castings to the LS6 heads, but the combustion chamber is bigger to allow lower compression.
The bore on the block doesn't dictate which heads you can/can't use. If that was the case, the LS2 4.0" bore wouldn't come from the factory with 243 casting LS6 heads which were designed for a 3.9" bore.. The only thing you can't use on the LS1 is the rectangle port heads like the L92 and LS7 stuff.
The LQ9 stuff flows good out of the box (similar to LS6 heads) but nowhere near a set of aftermarket casting or ported heads. Also, the LQ9 heads have around 72cc combustion chambers, which will drop your compression nearly a point. They are pointless to run on naturally aspirated motors unless you're changing the pistons, but great for forced induction motors running a stock bottom end.

Jason's Firehawk is the recent submission! HE HAS THE BIGGEST BOX!? I know both Justin (orange Snap-On) and Jerry (black Cornwell) are bigger. We've got guys up here with boxes that are no joke 12' long and 8' tall! Briefly spoke to Cormack, and apparently they want/need me there bad.
my brother has offered to help, but it would be nice to have someone thats already done it before..
probably the same dude; the only "G"erry i know of is a sales manager.
i'll ask him tomorrow when i go in if i see him; i believe he leaves about the time I get there too, especially during the riding season when we are all so anxious to get off work and ride back home haha
Jerry?, Gerry? i dont know. (pro-noun, "Jer' . E") - caucasian service tech at raleigh location, little to no hair, rides a harley, tall, and quite "healthy".
