ZAINO experts: any special concerns using it on a Fiero?
ZAINO experts: any special concerns using it on a Fiero? I need to rescusitate my Fiero's 17 year old paint for the big upcoming Fiero 20th Anniversary bash this summer in Pontiac, MI.
As you may know, all of the Fiero's body panels are plastic, so it's not that different from the plastics used in F-bods (in case that matters). Thanks!

I've Zaino'd about 9 sheet metal cars with never a problem. Did 3 VW Bugs (ugly pos's) which are all plastic, and 1 Saturn. No harm, no foul. Worked just as good if not better on plastic.
BTW: Fiero's are cool!

It is probably not clear-coated so you'd want to use the Z-3 polish. Once you can prep the paint and make any repairs needed, you are ready to start adding coats.
I'd get the Z-3 polish, Z-6 enhancer spray, Z-7 car wash, Z-18 clay bar and the ZFX additive.

How is that ZFX additive stuff? I still have half a bottle of Z1 Lok, so I still do it the old fashioned way. Works great. ZFX that much better?
Try the glass polish. I hesitated but finally got it. Sweeeeeeeeeet

The ZFX is more user friendly than Z-1, the ZFX offers you a brighter and harder finish for your Zaino polishes, it dries much faster than Z-1, and it still dries fast even if you apply the polish on the thicker side, get it once your Z-1 is gone, if you like Zaino already you will really like what ZFX does.
I really like the ZFX!! I've got several of the ZFX kits and rarely use Z1 now. As Carl stated, the ZFX makes the polish dry much faster, allows multiple coats of the polish to be applied (up to 3 coats back to back), and creates a harder and even more durable finish. ZFX is expensive, but it is worth it if you don't want to wait for the polish to dry or you do want to add several coats in one day.
As far as prepping your Fiero,
Give it a good claying first, then use any necessary paint cleaners or swirl removers for proper prep, then you're ready to apply the Zaino. The clay will make a big diffenence in finish smoothness and probably clarity. I'd recommend you use a good paint cleaner/swirl remover like 3M SMR, Meguiar's #9 SMR, or S100 GEP, after claying. After prep the finish should look near perfect (no marring, scratches, swirls, etc) before you begin Zainoing. The Zaino will seal in the finish, bring out a great shine, and give lasting protection. The prep stage is arguably most important towards getting the perfect finish and must be done regardless of your choice of wax or sealant.

Wow! You guys are very helpful! Sometimes I think one needs to be a chemical engineer to use Zaino -- that's why I've never used it but I will try to learn.
Can anyone point me to a noobie's procedure/website on using (or deciphering) Zaino's products and how to use them? I know about zainobros.com but I'd like something independent and not necessarily trying to sell me every product they make.
Also, a noobie's procedure on claying would be very helpful. I've never clayed and know nothing about it.
Thanks again!

You might want to check out www.lazaino.com for more instructions and application tips/tricks.
Also, here's a little write up I did for those new (or old)
to Zaino: http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview....hreadID=286208
And, here's a little guide to claying: http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview....hreadID=361466
Sorry about the popups!

AFAIK, Carl is the only "salesman" that has posted in this thread. Everyone else's posts are from their personal point of view....
