Xenon G/E and paint????
I have Xenon ground effects and front spoiler. It's kinda a rubber material. But I have had it painted twice now and the after three weeks the paint just chips and flakes right back off. It looks horrid!!! The guy who painted it has done work on his Vettes, but I don't think he used the right kind of paint or clear coat. I was told that there is a specail kind of paint. So I am asking if anyone can tell me what this paint is called or what special prepping does it need or requires? The car is my black '98 Z28. My car is really sharp other wise. But this whole issue is the reason I don't have pics of it to post yet. It is a real eye sore when it comes to that front peice. I thought this guy knew what he was doing, but I guess he was just a bull ****ter!
Re: Xenon G/E and paint????
Well i bought one of those cheap ebay front bumper covers to be installed on my car when it was at the shop. Ebay said it was primered and ready for paint but my body shop said the paint wouldnt stick to it and it would just peel off. So they had to do some sort of "acid dip" to make the paint adhear to it better. I know ive heard of some sort of special primer paint, i think it has something to do with urethane or something that has to be applied before the paint. But i am by no means an expert on this so hopefully someone else will chime in on this subject.
Re: Xenon G/E and paint????
Sounds like the part wasn't properly prepped. You need to scuff it with 600 grit sandpaper then spray with primer. Wet sand the primer if it's not smooth enough then spray a sealer coat of primer then paint. You can buy flex additive for the paint so it stays more flexible and doesn't crack but it's only good for a few weeks then it cures to normal hardness. After paint, clear and when cured, wet sand and buff.
