I don't what the big deal about this is. I used to wash my car in the sun all the time and it turned out great everytime. I have access to a closed shop now, but before that I had at least 2 years worth of washings in the sun.

For as much money as he charges there's an extremely good chance that he's running all of his water through a filtration system before it hits the car, making water spots an impossibility.

I found that if it's not that hot out then washing in the sun isnt much of a problem.

I thought he would take off the wheels and detail behind them too?
