i have been doing work on my car in the shop for about the last two months... one time there was some spray painting that took place in the shop but my car was covered with sheets... there has been a fair amount of welding and some plasma cutting as well as just a bunch of dust (shop is off a gravel road)... anyway, i finally got the car back on the road and washed it yesterday... it was FILTHY... afterwards the WHOLE car is rough feeling... it feels like super super fine sand paper... it still looks fairly shiny but it collects dust like crazy since the surface is rough... what the hell is this??? can it be clayed out or did i just ruin my whole paintjob somehow???

It's kinda of hard to say what it is with out seeing or feeling it, but it sounds like theres inbedded dirt in the paint, use a clay bar and see if that helps any and polish it afterwards too.
