Post What do you guys use to clean your engine?

This is a topic which isn't asked much here. What kind of stuff do you guys use to clean your engine compartment? I've got some Meguiers(sp?) Hot wheels wheel cleaner that works great on wheels, but will it do the job on the engine? Will it harm anything? Also, is it Ok to wash the engine down with a hose? Will it hurt any electrical items?

First off make sure your car is cool. Cover your computer, distributor, battery, and any other electrical parts you can. This is for a dirty engine. Wet the engine with water. Use a non-butyl(look on the label)cleaner and spray on the engine. Let is sit and work into the dirt then agitate with a brush or wash mitt. Rinse and then blow dry. Don't use a dimethyl silicone/petroleum dressing on the engine. Use a water based/siloxane dressing.(call the company of the product if your not sure) If you use a dimethyl silicone/petroleum dressing on your engine it can ruin your o2 sensors. GM, Ford, and Dodge did studies on this and found that a molecule on the dimethyl oil will attack the o2 and mess it up. So make sure you use a water based dressing and wipe it on to the plastics...don't spray. If you need anymore help just ask.
