Question What caused this? (Paint related)

I was washing my car today and noticed a small spot about 5 inches in length, the paint looked cracked up into little square shapes. The paint there is still intact but it's nasty looking. This area is located on the driver's side spoiler of my TA, right after the fender well.
My question is, does anyone one have this similar experience w/ the paint cracking like this and know it's possible cause? Also, is this area repairable by wax without having to repaint?
The car is a '96 TA with 83,000 miles and overall the paint looks pretty good. Just this one small area presents a new concern as I don't want the cracking to spread and would like to fix it up as well. Thanx in advance.

No way to fix cracked paint unless you re paint it, someone must have bumped your car.

Thumbs down

I've got an 89 T/A. For many years the spoiler was fine, then within one year it suddenly got cracked paint over all the horizontal areas. It's in a garage most of the time too. I was told this problem is common on T/A's with older spoilers. Don't be surprised if you see big open gaps appear in the plastic itself too! I'm working on ways to polish it without leaving visible white crack lines. On the plus side, no paint has actually come off, it just cracks. I cover the holes in the plastic to keep water out. I was told by a body shop that repairing the spoiler probably wasn't going to work. They suggested getting a new spoiler. I found a site online once which sold fiberglass replacement spoilers so look around.
